Neil Adams warns Norwich City must deal with being hunted prey in the Championship after an opening weekend 1-0 loss at newly-promoted Wolves.

None of the relegated former Premier League trio mustered a win on their return to the second tier with Fulham beaten at Ipswich and Cardiff held to a point at Blackburn.

Adams had urged his squad to embrace the inevitable expectations surrounding Norwich on the eve of the trip to Molineux and defeat in the Black Country underlined his point.

“We have to be ready to handle that, along with the other two relegated teams, because no-one is just going to let us go back up. That is for sure,” he said. “We have to be mindful of that. We are under no illusions how tough it will be. There is a gap in quality from Championship to Premier League but don’t be fooled into thinking every team wants to play a direct, physical style. They don’t. I have looked at all the teams and some do but others want to play. Wolves being one of them. You have to be ready for that.

“We saw it in the Ipswich and Fulham game. Fulham probably had more of the ball but lost the game. Cardiff, Blackburn on Friday night was a similar type of style and a similar type of physical game.

“If you are not at, if things go against you, if you are not disciplined enough then you will get punished. The players are well aware of what they are going to be up against week in, week out and I know my players are going to give it a really good go.”

Adams insisted Kenny Jackett’s side had also proved they should no be discounted in the promotion shake-up.

“It is a tough league. You saw it with Wolves, who will be fine in this division,” he said. “We are one of the teams who have to make sure we go and impose ourselves on games. We are going to be tested with all sorts this season and we have to be ready and we have to match it. We need to win games, simple as that. You can take positives from performances but it is all about winning games. Those positives pale away to the result. You would take a poor result and a win.”
