Neil Adams insists Norwich City will be ready to ward off any fresh interest in their best players.

The Canaries’ begin their Championship season at Wolves on August 10 but with the summer window remaining open until the end of that month Adams knows his top talent could well be in demand.

Robert Snodgrass has departed to Premier League Hull for a club-record deal and Adams would be surprised if there are not plenty of enquiries for his frontline players once the real action is underway.

“Is it a distraction? Of course it is but almost in an ironic sense it means you have good players and lads who are in demand,” he said. “If no-one is picking up the phone and giving you a call or knocking on your door then the problem is you don’t have too many they want.

“Of course you don’t want players being disrupted when the season has started and you want to keep the better ones but enquiries may come in. Robert Snodgrass is the classic example. When it gets to a point when the finances are very favourable for the club then you have to look at it because we are a Championship club. That is the reality.”

City have brought in Lewis Grabban and Kyle Lafferty but missed out on Coventry’s Callum Wilson and Adams predicts plenty more twists and turns in the transfer market.

“Sometimes you can’t always get your own way. I’m sure there’ll be movement in and out once we have got all the squad back together,” he said. “The ones who are here now have to prove they want to be part of it, otherwise they will be on their way. People may come and make offers for our players and we have to be ready for that.”
