Norwich City’s new manager Neil Adams insisted he bears no grudge towards Glenn Roeder after following the former Canaries’ chief into the Carrow Road hotseat.

Roeder was disparaging towards Adams when he was working in the media, claiming the FA Youth Cup winner would never manage anything better ‘than an under-10s team.’ Adams was forced to leave his role in the club’s youth set-up at the time but he has more pressing matters than proving Roeder wrong.

“That is a long time ago. I have been in the game long enough and things get said. I don’t bear any grudges at all,” he said. “It was something that happened at the time but we move on. That is done and dusted for me. It is a personal sense of fulfilment for me, nothing else.

“I don’t reference those comments. I have no animosity to anybody because life is too short. I am really pleased to be in the position I am now. I didn’t think my Norwich career was over when I left and of course Glenn brought me back not long after. It gets built up and it is a talking point but six weeks later or whatever it was we were working again. There was no recriminations.”

The new City boss will be assisted by development coach Mark Robson and academy head of coaching Paul Nevin, along with goalkeeping guru Dave Watson, but academy coach Darren Huckerby will not be involved.

“We just feel with five games left that is the best way to move forward and have coaches who know the players and have a feel for the club,” said Adams. “They will be the two assisting me. Darren already works at the club on a part-time basis with the junior age groups but Mark and Paul will be in the dugout.”
