Chris Hughton believes Norwich’s strikeforce can draw inspiration from Kevin Nolan’s goalscoring antics ahead of trying to thwart West Ham’s captain in Tuesday’s Premier League trip to Upton Park.

Nolan is the most prolific player in the top flight on current form after taking his tally to four goals in two outings following a second consecutive brace in the weekend 2-0 win at Aston Villa.

The 31-year-old’s goals have cushioned the loss of suspended England striker Andy Carroll, but Hughton is adamant his men have the same quality to emulate Nolan and improve their own modest goal tally.

“West Ham have shown when they need a goalscorer or that bit of inspiration Kevin Nolan has come up trumps for them, and that is the type of individual he is,” said Hughton. “To score four goals in two games illustrates how fine the margins are and how much that can change things. Offensively we need to be better, we know that. We are conscious of that. It is frustrating but all you can do as a manager is keep working, keep encouraging them to get into the right positions. We would be worried if the lads were not getting into those positions. You see the chance for Ricky (van Wolfswinkel) at the end of the Manchester City game and that would have given all of us a massive lift. When that ball was fired across on another day he gets a touch and scores. You don’t want to heap pressure on them. You want them to play their natural game.”
