Neil Adams has no fears Norwich City will be under-cooked for the Championship opener at Wolves after another pre-season cruise produced a 13-0 romp against Italian part-timers SC Vallee d’Aoste on Sunday in the opening match of their three-game tour.
The Canaries’ hammered Braintree 6-1 prior to flying out to Italy but a late change of opponent saw the game descend into a training exercise at their Chatillon Saint Vincent base.
Adams’ admitted afterwards he wanted a much tougher test but believes they will arrive during the club’s remaining pre-season programme prior to a trip to Wolves on August 10.
“We need tougher tests and we’ll get that in the two games particularly at Carrow Road and against Bastia, who are a top flight French side,” he said.
“We wouldn’t want too many of these games the closer we get to the kick-off. The positives you take is the fitness and the goals but we do accept it would have been more beneficial for us to be tested defensively because we have worked on that side quite a lot since we have been out here.”
Russell Martin, Anthony Pilkington, Jamar Loza and Jacob Murphy also struck braces in the one-sided affair.
“The opposition were obviously very weak and they didn’t give us the test we wanted at this stage of the season,” said Adams.
“The focus is on Wolves in three weeks but I would have preferred a tougher work-out for the players. Banging in goals is great for the players but we need to be tested a little bit more than we were in this game.
“You have to beat opposition like this and we scored some excellent goals but lets be honest we should be doing that and there was very little in the way of
opposition; you could see they were struggling to cope with our fitness and greater quality.
“The lads did a professional job and beat what was put in front of them, but I wanted a tougher test so we are right for Wolves.”
