Josh Murphy has already had a lot to smile about as a Norwich City player – but Tuesday night’s efforts against Crawley were as good as it gets for the 19-year-old.
The winger’s brace played a major part in the Canaries’ Capital One League Cup second round win over Crawley Town – albeit with the odd scare.
“That’s one of my best nights, yes – to come off the pitch with a man of the match performance and getting two goals… it’s unbelievable,” said Murphy.
“All credit to the boys. It was a hard game. They had a lot of possession and we were a relatively young side. So we did really well under the circumstances.
“Neil has got a lot of trust in us and having worked with him for a long time, he knows what he’s doing. He knows when it’s the right time to play people and like with Kyle (McFadden) – he hasn’t featured at all, but the gaffer wouldn’t have put him in if he hadn’t thought he was ready or capable. He showed what he’s got and had a solid game today. And then there was Jacob (Murphy), Jamar (Loza), and Reece (Hall-Johnson)came on as well.
“It just shows the academy has come a long way and all credit to the whole team. There were two debuts as well with Carlos (Cuellar) and Cameron (Jerome), so overall it was a good team performance all round.”
And equally fun for the Murphy twins to finally start a senior game together.
“It was a good moment for us and the family, and one we’ll cherish,” Josh added. “We said to each other before we went out that this is what it’s all about – we need to be starting week in, week out.
“It’s not going to happen any time soon, but we’ve got to keep training well, playing well, getting into the manager’s head – and then hopefully come the end of the season we are starting together because it’s unbelievable being out there on the pitch together.
“He assisted me for the first goal and it was just like old times.”
