Norwich City winger Josh Murphy has been named in the England Under-19 squad looking to earn qualification to July’s European Championships in Hungary.

Noel Blake’s side face Montenegro, Scotland and Ukraine in three decisive qualifiers to be played at Walsall’s Bescot Stadium and Burton’s Pirelli Stadium at the end of this month.

Blake has selected a strong provisional squad of 23, which will be cut to 18 following a training camp.

Murphy – whose nine Premier League appearances this season have all come from the subs’ bench – will be joined by Manchester United striker James Wilson, who scored twice on his senior debut in Tuesday night’s 3-1 home win over Hull City.

Goalkeepers: Mitchell Beeney (Chelsea), Christian Walton (Brighton & Hove Albion)

Defenders: Ola Aina (Chelsea), Dominic Ball (Tottenham Hotspur), Calum Chambers (Southampton), Shay Facey (Manchester City), Brendan Galloway (MK Dons), Lloyd Jones (Liverpool), Matthew Targett (Southampton)

Midfielders: Lewis Baker (Chelsea), Isaac Hayden (Arsenal), Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Chelsea), Ben Pearson (Manchester United), Diego Poyet (Charlton Athletic), Harrison Reed (Southampton), John Swift (Chelsea)

Forwards: Chuba Akpom (Arsenal), Devante Cole (Manchester City), Sam Gallagher (Southampton), Jordon Ibe (Liverpool), Josh Murphy (Norwich City), Callum Robinson (Aston Villa), James Wilson (Manchester United).

  • Should have been used more in the City First team. Loads of top teams field youngsters but Norwich, that will be a NO then.
