Matt Jarvis's injury nightmare is showing little sign of coming to an end at Norwich City.

The winger has missed two seasons due to ankle problems and is now in the final year of his contract, signed back in January 2016 when his loan from West Ham was made permanent for a reported £2.5million fee.

The 32-year-old attempted a comeback in March but limped off after 20 minutes and has not featured for the first team since a 3-0 defeat at Everton on the final day of the 2015/16 Premier League campaign.

Jarvis has since been unable to add to his 21 appearances and City boss Daniel Farke has revealed things are not looking any better for the one-cap England international during pre-season.

'To be honest Matt Jarvis wasn't involved at all with us, he's still in rehab, there are always setbacks for him,' the Canaries head coach said after Friday's 2-1 friendly win at King's Lynn Town.

'It's tough for him and also disappointing for him but it is what it is and at the moment there is no chance to re-involve him in training.'

There is more encouraging news for two of City's promising academy prospects though.

Carlton Morris is making good progress from the knee ligament injury picked up when playing for Shrewsbury at Wembley in May, which was due to keep him out until the new year – with the striker posting photos of strengthening work in the swimming pool on social media.

Todd Cantwell also tweaked a knee in the latter stages of his loan at Fortuna Sittard last season, when the playmaker helped secure promotion to the Dutch top flight, but is set to return this week.

'Sadly it is in the swimming pool and not on the pitch,' Farke said of the progress of 22-year-old Morris.

'It will last a few more months until Carlton is back without any pressure but he works pretty hard, so he works a double session, in the swimming pool and the gym.

'He has even started with some anti-gravity running, so he is in a good way.

'Todd Cantwell, he can return to team training on Monday or Tuesday, so it's not too bad.

'Sadly he missed two weeks of pre-season, so that's not the best, especially after coming back from a loan spell but it is what it is and thankfully he is back now.'
