Robert Snodgrass believes patience has paid off for him in only his second season in the Premier League.
The Scotland winger was second in the Canaries’ player of the season voting last term, behind Sebastien Bassong, after six goals and six assists helped lift City to an 11th-placed finish.
This term’s start was a little trickier after it took Snodgrass until mid-November to score a top-flight goal, and late January before he set one up.
However, Snodgrass feels he is now up to speed and firing – something he no doubt hopes will help lead the Canaries to Premier League survival.
“A season isn’t done in six months – I told people to be patient, to stick with us and I would repay them; and I feel as if I’ve done that,” said Snodgrass, who has now either scored or assisted a goal in five of City’s previous nine games.
“The first part of the season, I’ve stressed that injuries were a big part in that. I still put my body on the line for the boys, but the chances weren’t really coming for me. So it was a matter of keep going, keep my head up, keep working hard, keeping doing the things on the training ground, keep getting myself in those positions and as I say, I’ll put my chance away.
“I’ve been getting assists, scoring goals, and that’s what my job is so I’m delighted with that. And if it’s not working then you have to work hard for the team, and that’s exactly what I’ve been doing as well.”
Snodgrass also came closest to scoring in the poor 3-0 defeat at Swansea on Saturday, with his shot denied by Ashley Williams as City looked to stage a second-half comeback that soon petered out.
Now City need to at least extend their six-game unbeaten run at Carrow Road – and realistically make it three home wins from four – when fellow strugglers West Brom visit this weekend.
Snodgrass added: “It’s all about everybody doing their job, looking at your team-mate and seeing that he’s going to be right by your side throughout the battle, because we need everybody.
“And there will be many players that haven’t even featured recently that will now be called upon.”
