Scott Howie had one of the best views of Norwich City's Uefa Cup run during the 1993-94 season.

Howie provided cover for fellow Scottish keeper Bryan Gunn and was an unused substitute during all six of the Canaries' European ties almost 25 years ago.

As that squad reunites ahead of Sunday's fund-raising exhibition against Inter Forever at Carrow Road (2pm), in aid of the Community Sports Foundation, the memories have come flooding back for the 46-year-old.

'It was an exciting time,' Howie said. 'The club's a lot bigger now in terms of the training facilities and the stadium but we were a tight-knit group back then, it was a smaller squad, but a talented squad. We had a good mix of players who had done it in the Premiership and come very close to the title and a good group of up-and-coming players as well.'

Gunn's save from Adolfo Valencia during the famous 2-1 win at Bayern Munich went down in legend.

'Gunny was a delight to work with,' Howie continued. 'I was a younger keeper at the time and knew exactly what I was coming to Norwich for at the time, to be a squad player and push him as far as I could.

'He was a class goalkeeper was Gunny and some of his performances during the Uefa Cup run were fantastic but even through the whole season, we had a great group and we did defend very resiliently. There was always a goalmouth scramble whenever Norwich played and you'd have people like John Polston and Rob Newman throwing themselves in to block the ball but Gunny had a few great saves during that run.'

The Glaswegian, signed from Clyde for around £300,000 in 1993, only made two appearances for City before being sold to Motherwell and going on to play for clubs including Reading, Bristol Rovers and Shrewsbury.

He wound down his career with King's Lynn and Wroxham, and still lives locally, working as a tax consultant and playing alongside the likes of Darren Huckerby and Matt Gill for Cringleford Veterans.

'I wouldn't say I keep fit,' Howie added. 'I play for Cringleford Vets, not in goal I should add, I play in midfield!'

Former Canaries boss Mike Walker is returning to Carrow Road to take charge of the Canaries legends against Inter on Sunday.

'He was a gentleman, he was the man who signed me and a delight to be involved with,' Howie said of his firmer boss. 'He kept football and training very simple, he was good on that and a good motivator, a great man manager.'

City's players will need to be on their toes for the exhibition though – raising funds for the Build The Nest campaign – as Inter have named Jurgen Klinsmann, Maicon and Marco Materazzi in their squad.

'We may be leaving it a bit late for the fitness routine,' Howie joked. 'As far as I'm aware the Inter Forever team train regularly and play regularly, they're a bit younger than some of our boys from the original team.

'Let's face it, they're Inter Milan, they're going to be great players, so really looking forward to seeing that kind of talent at Carrow Road.'
