Chris Hughton admits he takes great pride from being Norwich City’s longest-serving Premier League manager.

Hughton will oversee his 69th top flight game in charge of the Canaries when he leads his side into battle on Saturday against Sunderland at Carrow Road.

The City boss surpassed Mike Walker at the head of an exclusive club earlier this month and despite a difficult campaign which once again involves a survival struggle, Hughton feels very fortunate to be at the helm.

“I am very proud to be the manager of this football club and that is something to cherish,” he said. “I have known about Norwich City and what this club stands for during a number of years and some of us who are old enough to remember well recall those successful seasons and the European campaign. It is a club that I always enjoyed watching and visiting wherever I was in my own career and I feel very proud and honoured to be managing this football club.”

Hughton is not alone in reaching a notable managerial milestone with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, pictured, preparing for his 1,000th game with the Gunners this weekend.

“It is a remarkable achievement to have managed for that period of time and over that number of games in this division during an era when managers chop and change so readily,” said Hughton. “Arsenal may not have been as successful in recent years as they were in the past, but to be continually involved in the Champions League during his reign is incredible.

“It seems to me like he has a few more games to go yet. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is still going in quite a few years time. Arsene shows incredible enthusiasm for the game and perhaps when he first came over to this country a lot of people did not know about him so to think at that early stage he would reach this landmark is all credit to him.”
