Chris Hughton insists his Norwich City players will come out fighting to save their Premier League lives.

The Canaries’ chief knows many have already written off his side’s survival chances after damaging away defeats at Cardiff and West Ham, but Hughton expects an emphatic response when they host Tottenham in nine days.

“We know we need to get points and the only way we do that is by sticking together as a group,” he said. “It won’t be difficult to pick them up. We have to because we have a very tough game on Sunday week. The lads will have some rest and recovery over the next few days and then we need to put some of the wrongs right.”

Hughton is well aware Norwich have been found wanting over recent weeks against their direct rivals, despite carving out a stack of chances at both Cardiff and Upton Park.

“That adds to the frustration. West Ham were around us and it was an opportunity for us to get points and to deny West Ham points in the process,” he said. “We have a number of those type of games coming up and they are vitally important for us.

“It is tight down there, like this stage last season, and we have to draw on those experiences to finish in a good position. The manner we lost hurts but if we go and don’t perform well then it’s a different type of inquest. It is my responsibility to pick the bones out of what we did well because there was so much good about our performance.”
