Player ratings for both Norwich City and Chelsea following their Premier League clash.

• Norwich City

6 John Ruddy: May feel culpable for the fourth but without his routine heroics it could have been a lot more.

5 Russell Martin: Had a chance to clear before Chelsea’s second goal. Still endeavoured to get City on the front foot.

6 Leon Barnett: Eventful. One excellent early block on Fernando Torres. Assist for Grant Holt. Then left flat-footed for equaliser.

6 Sebastien Bassong: Not a game to return after a recent injury layoff to try and combat Chelsea’s central thrusts.

5 Javier Garrido: Needed far greater support to quell the threat from compatriot Juan Mata. Three goals came down his side.

6 Elliott Bennett: Never neglected his defensive duties in front of Russell Martin. Fleeting counter-attack threat in the first half.

6 Jonny Howson: Appeared to have great licence to get further forward. Passive for Eden Hazard’s goal.

6 Alex Tettey: Encouraging full Premier League debut. Bizarre close range header aside, plenty to build on. Muscular presence.

5 Bradley Johnson: Deployed wider on the left. Peripheral influence. Javier Garrido left far too exposed. Lucky to avoid a caution.

6 Wes Hoolahan: Sparked during City’s brightest spells. Early cross teed up the opener. Weak effort in the build up to third.

7 Grant Holt: Scored one, could have had two more either side of the interval. Excellent work rate.

Subs: Anthony Pilkington (for Johnson) 5, Steve Morison (for Holt) 5, Ryan Bennett (for Bassong) 5

• Chelsea

6 Petr Cech: No chance with Grant Holt’s close range strike. Bystander for long spells, given his side’s dominance of the ball.

7 Branislav Ivanovic: Powerful full-back. One of the best in the league. Dangerous in either box - as demonstrated by his goal.

6 David Luiz: No question of his ability on the ball. Still looks suspect in the air. Holt profited from such indecision at times.

6 John Terry: Could have paid a heavier price for three clear defensive lapses in his personal battle with Holt.

6 Ashley Cole: Caught underneath the ball for Norwich’s opener. Otherwise left the headlines to others. For once.

7 Mikel: Landmark appearance for the club. Will have much more difficult outings in the Blues’ engine room.

7 Frank Lampard: No longer the all-action box-to-box player of his youth. Sets the tempo superbly and can still finish when required.

8 Juan Mata: Directly involved in three of the four goals. Pace, guile and plenty of cunning. Class act.

7 Oscar: Impish presence. Appeared free of any defensive duties to roam and pick holes in Norwich’s backline.

7 Eden Hazard: Composed finish for Chelsea’s third. Already seems to have a telephatic link with his midfield allies.

7 Fernando Torres: Wasted one early sighter but superb movement for his goal. Looked razor-sharp and relished the midfield support.

Subs: Ramires (for Lampard) 5, Cesar Azpilicueta (for Ivanovic) 5, Oriol Romeu (for Mikel) 5

  • Not pleasant reading! Perhaps we should adopt a siege mentality like Chelsea don`t have?

  • Bunn the Benchwarmer warranted 10 for his perfect performance. Could we swop him for a bit of Rhodes?

  • The picture in the Pink `Un yesterday, showed Holty celebrating his goal with Pilks (on bench), Moro (on bench) and de Laet (at Leicester). Last year`s picture - why??? Different subject; where was Butterfield last night? Absent from U 21 game. We know how Vaughan is getting on at Huddersfield but we know nowt about what`s happening @ Carra Rud. Badness.

  • load of rubbish ratings again, johnson undervalued, won the ball a number of times, more than tettey, the favourite Howson didn't do much at all yet gets one of the best ratings reason being 'a license to get forward' I could play in that team with a license to get forward, doesn't mean I'll do well (although I think the Norwich team could use my left wing back capabilities). David Luiz is another easy target to rate lower than he should, pinkun very easily influenced by the bad media, his distribution was second to none and was good in the air, hence why Holt targeted Terry.
