James Maddison’s red hot form for Norwich City could tempt Tottenham to steal a march on Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester City with a mega-money bid this month.
The London Evening Standard report on Tuesday morning Maddison fits the profile for Mauricio Pochettino, who intimated last month he wants to sign the best English talent in the transfer window.
Spurs have loaned Norwich 19-year-old midfielder Marcus Edwards until the end of the season and have a long-standing interest in Maddison dating back to before he signed for the Canaries in 2016.
The Standard claim Spurs could test Norwich’s resolve to hold onto the £20m-rated starlet this month, after selling Alex Pritchard to Huddersfield last week, and may consider a loan back option in a repeat of the deal for Dele Alli in 2015.
Alli returned to MK Dons for the rest of that season before linking up with his new club in the summer.
Maddison scored the winner in Saturday’s 1-0 Championship win over Bristol City - his eighth of a breakthrough season - that also included an England Under-21 debut.
The 21-year-old Coventry bred prospect is under contract at Carrow Road until 2021, with a further one-year option, after signing a new deal in June 2017.
