Norwich City midfielder Kenny McLean earned his fourth cap for Scotland overnight, as Alex McLeish's team were beaten 2-0 in a friendly in Peru.

The 26-year-old made his second start for the Scots on the back of a fine season at Aberdeen, scoring 11 goals in 47 games ahead of joining up with the Canaries this summer.

It was a makeshift and inexperienced side that were beaten by World Cup-bound Peru in front of 40,000 exuberant fans at the Estadio Nacional in Lima, played at 2am UK time.

McLean completed 87 minutes before being replaced by Chris Cadden of Motherwell, a seventh debutant of the night for the visitors.

The 26-year-old whipped in a corner midway through the first half which Peru's keeper only just reached with Charlie Mulgrew waiting to turn home, before the team ranked 11th in the world took the lead in the 37th minute when Christian Cueva scored from the spot after defender Scott McKenna had handled in the penalty area.

Lokomotiv Moscow's Jefferson Farfan made it 2-0 from close range in the 47th minute with Millwall keeper Jordan Archer, one of four starting debutants, looking culpable again after his misjudgement had led to the earlier penalty.

McLeish's squad now have to prepare for another World Cup-bound side in Mexico at the Azteca stadium at the weekend, at 1am on Sunday UK time.
