Jordan Rhodes admits his protracted summer move to the Canaries makes him even more desperate to help fire Norwich City into the Championship promotion mix.

The 28-year-old striker sealed a season long loan switch from Sheffield Wednesday earlier this month, after both clubs finally thrashed out a financial package to get Rhodes to Carrow Road.

The Scottish international has been on the fringes at the Owls for the past two seasons but feels he is now in the right place to hit the goal trail.

'That was a difficult situation because I belong to another club.

'As a professional you just have to concentrate, knuckle down and be ready for whatever club that might be,' he said. 'I am really, really lucky to have got a move to Norwich City where there is a fantastic set of players, fans and coaches.

'I really want to get my head down and repay that faith and passion.

'It would be nice (to have a fresh start) but the manager has several good players to choose from in forward areas so it is not a given the manager will select me. I just really need to knuckle down and make myself one of the lads and concentrate on working hard and contribute to the team effort.

'It doesn't matter who scores the goals - although strikers live for goals. This is about Norwich City and they need to be playing certainly at the top end of the Championship because that is where the club belongs.'

Rhodes opened his account in the City's 2-1 friendly defeat to FC Union Berlin on their German tour, but City head coach Daniel Farke is keen not to heap all the goalscoring pressure on the frontman this coming season.

'Of course it was important to score for Jordan to score. He also produced a brilliant assist at Lincoln and he showed good movement against a difficult side to score against Berlin,' said Farke. 'That is always key to score so early when you join a new club.

Dennis (Srbeny) had two goals in pre-season, Teemu (Pukki) two goals, and now Jordan has managed to score. We have a good feeling we have a good offence who can go on. It is not just Jordan, Teemu and Dennis are also in a good shape. '

I trust my strikers and I am 100pc sure we don't just need one go-to guy. We need two or three who are capable of scoring.'
