Daniel Farke admitted the day belonged to Tom Trybull after he celebrated a new long term Norwich City contract with the first half goal to beat 10-man Middlesbrough at Carrow Road.

Trybull's deal was announced minutes before kick-off and he marked the news with a rare goal after Boro had been reduced to 10 men - Rudy Gestede earning a red card for a lunge on Grant Hanley.

'A brilliant day for Tom and the club as well,' said Farke. 'This can happen in football.

'We are pleased he has signed a new long term contract and we were able to announce it before the game.

'It gave us some extra energy and motivation. He is a good lad and he wants to be here. After being injured for three weeks, he is back in the starting line up with the determining goal.

'Tom has got a lot of abilities. Perhaps scoring goals is not one of those but he has the technical ability. He is not always in that area of the field to score but he has a really good strike. I think he scored his last goal with his head.

'It is important even the holding midfielders are able to score.

'I would be pleased if even Angus Gunn was scoring goals for us. I just want to win games.

'Sometimes it is good when you don't have just the one striker scoring goals. We are struggling a little bit in this area and I would have liked the second goal to calm it down today.

'For me, Middlesbrough have unbelievable individual quality and with Tony Pulis they are able to climb back up the table into the promotion battle. To have a clean sheet in a well-deserved win was excellent.

'Okay, after the red card it is easier to stay in possession but not to create chances because his teams are always well organised. You know after a red card they will park the bus. You then have to be awake and controlling the counters with guys like (Adama) Traore.

'But we never gave away one chance.'
