The weather might be more skis and sledges but Daniel Farke has a warning for any Norwich City player ready to dig out the bucket and spade over the Championship run-in.

The Canaries may be too far away from either end of the table to become embroiled in late-season drama - nevertheless, Farke insists there is plenty to play for.

'You can be sure if there is one guy in our squad who seems like he is ready to rest or calm down he will wake up pretty soon. That is my task,' said the City head coach.

'I won't use the next games for experiments.

'In each and every game we will try to be there with the best squad to win.

'I want to win all the 12 games left. There are no gifts or presents for players who don't deserve a place.

'It is not like we pluck a guy from the under-15s with a view to what might happen in three years.

'The best players will be playing in the rest of the games. We will work in a proper way.

'If I can't be in position one then I want to be in position two and so on.

'It is the same if we are not able to climb the table so far to the top six, I want to go as far as we can.

'It is not about saying there is no difference between 13th and ninth place.

'These will be hard weeks because there is no time to think about the beach and lie back.

'The summer is long enough for the lads to do that, not between now and the beginning of May.'

City return to Championship action on Tuesday against Nottingham Forest at Carrow Road after the weekend's league postponement at Barnsley.

'It is important for next season as well with the confidence to finish this one well,' said Farke.

'We will have no problem maintaining the intensity.

'I can't praise highly enough the mentality and the attitude of my players.

'It is still possible to think about some unrealistic things and the fans always need to dream and think big.

'However as the coach I have to be realistic.

I have said it many times how big the changes have been and all the players we have lost.

'No club has lowered the wage bill or the age of the squad as much as us in this league.

'I don't want to put the pressure too high and say we are going to win the next 12 games and be in the play-offs.

'But we will do everything we can in these final games.'
