The battle for the signature of former Norwich City winger Robert Snodgrass is heating up after two clubs reportedly agreed £10million deals with Hull City for the Scot.

Burnley emerged as the first club to have agreed terms with the Tigers but it emerged later that Middlesbrough had matched their offer.

With West Ham cooling their interest in the Scotland international, who is Hull’s top scorer so far this season, the 29-year-old looked set for a medical with Burnley.

The Clarets look the safer bet to survive in the top flight this season but reports suggest the former Canaries star is keen to talk to Boro, who are likely to be able to offer a better wage package.

Snodgrass signed for Norwich for around £3m from Leeds in the summer of 2012 and scored 14 goals in 74 games across two seasons, moving to Hull in a deal worth around £7m after winning the player-of-the-season award for 2013/14.

He suffered a serious knee injury early in his time at Hull but recovered to help earn promotion via the play-offs last season and has now rediscovered top form in the Premier League, scoring seven goals in 20 league games.

Following last week’s departure of midfielder Jake Livermore to West Brom for a similar fee, Hull boss Marco Silva admits he needs to bring in new players.

“It’s clear we need players in those positions,” the Portuguese said. “When I came I had in my mind when I started training and started to analyse our games, I had one opinion.

“During these last four games some things have happened, some injuries also, and Jake has left and we need to pay attention to these situations also.

“We need to do our best in this window for these positions and for the other positions also.”

Silva drafted in winger Lazar Markovic this week, on loan from Liverpool until the end of the season, and confirmed another winger, Genk’s Leon Bailey, was also on his radar.

“We will try,” Silva added. “He’s not an easy player to get, but we will try. We will see.”
