Norfolk boys’ squash teams were in recent Inter-counties competition action, with a battling Under-19 team finishing a creditable third – only missing out on second by one match win – and an under strength Under-15 team fourth.

The Under-19s kicked off their home tie at Norwich’s East Anglian Tennis and Squash Club with a 3-2 defeat to Bucks. Harry Taylor, at one, produced a 3-0 win but Jordan Creed, at two, had to work much harder to win to win a five-set thriller, while Adam Sinkins at three went down battling in a decider. Tom Morris, four, fought hard without winning a game and Alex Oliver picked up a single at five.

The second tie saw Norfolk go down 5-0 to a strong Herts team, who did not drop a set all day. Louis Kemp at five and Sinkins came closest to winning.

In their final match against Cambs, Taylor, Creed, Sinkins and Morris all racked up accomplished 3-0 wins against competitive opponents. Finishing third, the team go through to the Plate competition in January.

With four members unavailable or ill, the Under-15 team travelled to Essex with a tough challenge. In the first match against Essex all players lost 3-0 with best performance coming from William Henden, at two. Johnnie Carmichael-Plester also went close to scoring a win.

More points came against Herts but still no wins, while Norfolk fared similarly in their last tie against Suffolk, who were looking to finish in the top two places.

Sam Henden also travelled as reserve, losing his two matches, 3-0 and 3-1.

• Under-19: 1 Herts 60 pts, 2 Bucks 36, 3 Norfolk 26, 4 Cambs 5.

• Under-15: 1 Essex 54, 2 Suffolk 43, 3 Herts 37, 4 Norfolk 1.
