Leroy Fer and Andrew Surman both remain in contention for Norwich City’s clash with Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night, with manager Neil Adams insisting neither are on the verge of leaving.

Sky Sports reported over the weekend that QPR had agreed an £8million fee for Holland international Fer and rumours on the south coast suggest Surman wants to return to Bournemouth, where he spent last season on loan.

“I’ve seen the speculation, I’ve seen stuff being confirmed on some stations on TV and it hasn’t, Leroy trained with us today, he’s in the squad for tomorrow and that’s where we are with that,” Adams said of Fer’s situation.

“Now I understand with football things can change at the drop of a hat but it’s disappointing to see, in some respects, what has been written and broadcast over the weekend because as of yet there’s no news to give you on Leroy Fer, he’s trained this morning with us.

“He’s a top quality player. I think he was delighted as well with the response from the crowd singing about (the World Cup in) Brazil during the game, and rightly so. He performed particularly well for himself out there.

“The 20 minutes or 25 minutes, whatever it was he had, he showed why he went to Brazil in the summer, he was excellent and as I said after the game, you don’t want to lose players like that.”

While also dismissing reports of interest in Huddersfield Town midfielder Oliver Norwood, Adams said Surman was also in the running to play against Blackburn having been left out of the squad completely for Saturday’s 3-0 home win against Watford.

“Surman is someone that I’ve said all along that I like, I think he’s a good player, I want him in the squad, I want him about the squad,” the City manager continued.

“He was with us through pre-season, started the game at Wolves, wasn’t ready for the weekend and again speculation but again I can only reiterate that he is someone who I would like to stay here and the sooner that transfer window comes and goes, the better for us all.”

Adams also said that striker Gary Hooper and midfielder Jonny Howson are not yet fit to return but could only say he hoped the pair would be back ‘sooner rather than later’.

“We’re hoping it’s not too long, that’s for sure, because they’ve been out two or three weeks respectively. So we’re not a million miles away but in terms of immediate games, unfortunately not,” Adams said of the pair.

The City boss remains unsure whether full-back Martin Olsson will be available for the Rovers game yet, admitting that the club are yet to hear from the FA about any extension to Olsson’s suspension following his red card in the 1-0 defeat at Wolves.

  • Well now we know. Fer has gone for......whatever figure you believe. What you fellow posters must realise is that Managers today are like politicians. They only tell you what you ( or they think you) need to know. The game is run by greedy agents now and there's not a lot NA or any of his fellow managers can do about it. PS this site is becoming a close second to the Edinburgh Festival Comedy scene. Dubai in a class of his own!

  • You can get a cream from Boots for that problem, el dingo. To Wac: no, dingo and I are not the same person - he`s the educated one. I`m only there for the beer. Ho-ho, Dubya! There was (yet another) re-run of an old Father Ted episode @ the weekend. The one where Ted ripped off a tune for the Eurosong Contest - "My Lovely Horse". There has to be an 1p5wich angle there somewhere. We just need a Suffolk Punchline... Dictionary (OED) description of a Suffolk Punch is "a draught horse of a short-legged, thickset breed...". I`ll leave it with you, Dubya; you`re i\c Ipswich Insults now ;-)

  • Bring on Foggo- Where in Adams statement does he say Fer is definitely staying? I think he will go. Also I do not believe that Leroy has in fact lived up to his potential at Norwich. He is an obvious talent but has yet to consistently produce a match changing performance, I would have liked to see him regularly establishing his authority in midfield. Shame if he leaves, we need quality to get back to and stay in the Premiership.

  • Very funny photo of Neil shaking hands with Beppe , that body language definitely shows he fears the full Italian embrace and double cheek kiss . " NO TONGUES ! ! ! " . Glad to hear Fer is staying , I suppose that is a case of Sky making up stories again ? Well I suppose they'd have to , journalists know that hacking phones is very naughty now .

  • I wonder how QPR wage structure compares to ours given they overspent by some distance last year. If Fer is to go, I'd be inclined to play the game and wait till Sep 1 when clubs panic buy. 8 million might well become 10 or 15 who knows. Would rather he stays. Not bothered either way on Surman especially as I jave a soft spot for the Cherries as an ex Bmouth resident. With Eddie Howe in charge they're a good long shot for top 6. Will be there fot the Jan fixture. Huge game tomorrow. Going for a tight win 2-1.

  • frankief, in answer to your enquiry: not yet. I`m thinking about it. It`s not so much the bits they`ll chop off - I don`t worry about little things like those. It`s those silicone filled balloons they want to stuff up my chest that concern me. Then again, you might have been referring to Michael Bailey. Specially with that winsome Eurovision-winning beard. All in the best possible taste, ducky.

  • As regards who does what at NCFC.....we need to remember our recent history. When DM went on the radio at the end of last season he talked about restructuring the management of the football club, freeing up the manager to concentrate on working with the first team. In my managerial experience this is usually a transfer of dutiespowers from one individual in an organisation to another. This is exactly what has taken place at Carrow Road and following Joe Royle's departure the duties concerned have been absorbed by the board. Now I know no more than anybody else but I would assume that the board are processing any player sales (not unusual) that are agreed by NA but that NA is determining who our transfer targets are and leaving the board to pursue these. I think the complication comes at this point in the transfer window when everybody is holding out to the closing date in order to obtain better deals.

  • If there is any truth in the Surman situation, it could only be cashing in on him if he's turned down a renewal offer. Adams saying he likes Surman doesn't mean he's staying. He likes him, just potentially not at the cost of the salary Surman would want to renew. Who knows, only a couple of weeks left and we'll know...
