Neil Adams expects Norwich City’s transfer hunt to hot up next week, while making it clear there are no acceptable bids for Nathan Redmond or Leroy Fer.

To send a link to this page to a friend, you must be logged in.

Stoke chief Mark Hughes revealed earlier this week he was interested in bringing the England Under-21 international to the Britannia, and Fer continues to be touted with the likes of QPR, but Adams insists both will only leave on Norwich’s terms.

“There has been a lot of speculation and a lot of enquiries. Where we are is we have not had a bid that is acceptable for Nathan,” said Adams. “It has been out in the public and that is not always ideal. I think clubs should sometimes make those enquiries privately, but I accept that is how it can be at times. Certainly in terms of Nathan, there has been no bid on the table that is anywhere near what we would be prepared to listen to. There is nothing doing at all. The same with Leroy. There has been enquiries, of course there has, we would be foolish to try and deny there had been.

“They will only go on our terms and we have said that many times. The nature of football is players come and go but we are certainly not going to let them leave for less than the value we consider acceptable.”

Adams knocked down speculation linking him with a move for Leicester City striker Chris Wood, but he is hoping to step up City’s bid for new blood entering the final phase of the window, which closes on September 1.

“There is nothing at all in that one. I don’t know where that has come from. He is a striker and we have looked at 100’s all through the summer, trust me, but there is nothing in that,” he said. “We have made enquiries. I am hopeful we can get one or two of those moving next week. We are down to 19 days or so now until the window closes. There are areas we have identified and we have enquiries that are on-going.

“It is not a case we have to wait on players’ leaving to bring others in. It might seem like that because there has been nothing doing and it is frustrating for everyone.”

  • Wactor, what you write is correct and hard to dispute but if you're a born optimist " like what I am " it is difficult to acknowledge your observations are right and hard to come down either side of the fence. As to the board, to be fair we are a relatively successful club, all be it not in a good place at this moment, may be there should be an injection of youth to give a different outlook and bit more energy and dynamism to take a few risks..

  • I guess we are a bit negative but any optimism over the last couple of years or confidence that the board knew what they were doing were proved to be wrong, very wrong. Now we see an unbalanced squad with a woefully inadequate defence and although we all want to think: "Don't worry the board and manager have it all under control", we prayed for that two years ago and one year ago and look where we are now. Who got it right about Clueless Chrissy? the so-called moaners or the board? Of course it is too early to sack Adams but if he has not strengthened the defence by the end of this window and the results reflect this failure, he has to be under very close scrutiny with alternatives being identified.

  • I know that they were only friendlies but I saw the games against Nice and Celta, both were competitive and we looked full of ideas and movement, then in the Wolves game there were changes and it all went wrong, obviously it was not the ideal formation and NA had put out the team he thought would do the job. It takes time to change the tactics and mind set from the previous two years so cut him some slack and be patient, there are still 45 plus cup games to go. Cutty, Jack was a thug but Ben Burgess, Pryce, Fenwick and Floyd to name a few ran him a close second, still it was a good school and that's the way it was in those far off days.

  • Obviously the board go for the 'cheap option' by appointing Adams as boss & the board have now got their 'Yes Man' in place..... No real signings & a board with a serious lack of ambition. Very board of reading the same old rubbish coming out of Carrow Rd. After last weeks shower of .... I thought it would be the ideal time for The Board to have gone all out to sign at least two players!!! - but no!! The Championship is the hardest league in the world (not the best league - the hardest) we simply haven't got the squad size, the drive and fight to get promoted.

We should all stop being naughty and say nice, positive things about Neil Adams. I am sure that if we do that we will be able to magic up a series of wins in the next three important fixtures. • I just don't get this at all. Last Sunday's efforts looked to me like the players were marking time. Just waiting on the next move away, and uncertain if it was them who would be leaving. Why not just come out and say "No one is for sale, we are not selling anybody"...and keep saying it ! All this nonsense about unacceptable offers can only be destabilising, and until it stops, you can't expect the team to gel, as it should have done, weeks ago. Meanwhile, we have a new euphemism - seems that if a player is 'injured' he's being lined up for disposal. (Wolf, Pilks, Snoddy) Such a shame. I thought that we might have seen Hoopers potential turned into goals this season. Oh well, rant over...

At keast this season will be interesting not just a slow descent into obscurity. For what its worth I think KL will prove to be an inspired buy and as for Fer, Redmond etc leaving I'm not too bothered it'll just give someone else a chance.

  • In this interview NA is clear about having (incoming) targets, possibly two as early as next week. Beyond that he has until 1st Sept to complete his squad, plus play some games, when we can then make a judgement on if he can deliver his and the fans' aspirations. Whatever our verdict however I do not see the board dismissing so soon a manager on a four year contract. As for the Pulis in lobby, I was for him when available last term but his availability now is premature. Also note his reasons for walking out on Palace include frustration at failing to land transfer targets and a desire for greater control of football matters. Where would that philosophy fit in to our "Football board" structure?

Everything that is said by anyone at the club is picked apart for any little nuance, hint, suggestion, implication to re-inforce your existing view. Harmless banter verging on abuse. You're like the bunch behind us at Wolves who ended up fighting each other over the relative merits of our substitutes. As the guy who tried to calm them down said "We're all supporting the same team here". If you expended half the energy you waste here in supporting the team at Carrow Road we'd walk this league.

From the insults being hurled about on here there would be gauntlets thrown down on an hourly basis. I did think of offering my services as a second, but judging from the accuracy of the comments currently being posted, I have concluded that it would be just too dangerous to stand behind any of these protagonists (perhaps that should read antagonists). In fact maybe we coud do a deal and get a few million + Robert Huth . As far as the performance goes , we had moments that were dismal , but once Lafferty came on we improved no-end . Wes looked hungry , Grabban was improved once Lafferty joined him . Ruddy was pretty good . Yes we need to improve , but we have plenty of time , as far as Chris Wood goes then we could do alot worse . • I don't think you can sack Adams after one game and a narrow defeat which was a little unlucky. My only concerns are around who may still leave, and what calibre and quantity of player we will be able to bring in in the next fortnight. At the moment, our squad does not look strong enough to achieve a top 6 finish and our first XI has defensive flaws which will be exposed by Deeney and Vydra tomorrow.

If you're Grabban, and Adams comes in for you, and he's on a one year deal, do you move for a manager who's there for one season or do you stay where you are?

He had no senior management experience and the five games he was in charge in the premier league, we were no different than before. Im not doubting that hes Norwich through and through and he wants us to win every match. Question is, has he got the ability to do this as a novice? I supposed people would also criticise him if he said they are not for sale and are then sold by the board. But it would be better for the fans, and also a warning to any interested buyers, if he said 'We want to get promoted. We will only sell for crazy money'. Better still, he could state we now will not sell whatever the price because of the lack of time to find replacements.

The NFL will consist of only home grown players with certain geographic stipulations. For example, the players must be born within the county of their team and or within a certain geographic distance of their club (say 40 miles radius). All 92 league clubs should be invited to submit a NFL side that play their home matches on a back to back basis when the league team is away. This would provide fans with a refreshing alternative to the greedy money show business that the top of the game has become. I think many people would support the 'home grown team' just as passionately, if not more so that the multi-millionaire mercenaries that are know as today's professional footballers ! Just a though.......

As an ex player myself (for not a lot of money) I used to pass the ball to someone in our team and shoot at the net and inevitably we won a fair bit. I just fear he has no backbone if a higher bid for Fer comes in he will go without any arguments and we will not be able to replace him like for like. Yes give him a chance but as supporters we want the best football at the best level and that means retaining quality within the squad. A lot of people seem to conveniently forget that although "Adams hasn't won in 6 matches" 4 of the opponents were, Chelsea, Man U, Arsenal and Liverpool. He has now got rid of the scapegoats (for some Snodgrass and RVW could do no right) so I for one am prepared to give him a chance.

  • Indeed Trevor, none of us are 100% happy with the situation. We just have to be realistic about where we now are and get behind the manager and the team. I know this will invite ridicule but I genuinely believe NA will get this team playing and scoring goals.

  • Well said Steady On and Cutty. With regards to the latest knee jerk reaction, no thanks! there's no guarantee Pulis would get instant results here because we'd need right the personnel for his style of hoofball. If we played his way and didn't win this board would go into meltdown lol

  • The board had the opportunity to employ Pulis before he took the CP job when they knew that CH was not performing and they didn’t so why should they now. I am pessimistic about our chances but we are only one game into the campaign and willing to see how the next three games go. I would have liked to see more activity prior to this but as we all know the transfer window can be a fickle time so let’s see what the end result is by the time it closes. I agree with johnnyp I would have liked a more positive statement on Fer but with this board c’est la vie! My main concern is that our best players disappear out the door on the last day and we do not replace them. OTBC

  • MY, I agree with you in that we must now give NA a chance to prove his worth and one championship game is too little to go on that is for sure. I think the board made a mistake sticking with him for the coming season but now that decision has been made, we all need to get behind him and the club. Fellow season ticket holders around me were suggesting Pullis as an option to replace the previous manager before he went to Palace and in retrospect he may well have kept us up but such is the gamble on football management, we are where we are so lets get on with it.

  • This site is beginning to resemble the moaning Canary Call. Lighten up, we've lost one game, got rid of RVW, let greedy Snod go for a pile of dosh, and given Pilks his last sick note. On the plus side we've brought in two useful strikers and a ball winning midfielder. OTBC.

  • Wise words from Steely. Adams was an underwhelming choice for me, but he has the job for a while. 4 year contract, Lobbo?? Crikey! That must be Neil`s safety net in case things go pear-shaped early on. Nice work if you can get it.The usual suspects on the "Board" will want to avoid being made to look foolish yet again. I wonder if Neil`s alleged "rabbit in the headlights" look is the result of residual shock from getting the job in the first place. After all, The Wise Six scoured every Corner Shop in the big, wide world to find the right man - and there he was at Colney all the time. As were some of the others in the `new` setup. The Board has a familiar look about it. No change there. That IS a bit depressing.

  • 17 days, and with a bank holiday and some matchdays, effectively it's 14 days of business. Get a move on! The way Palace played under Pulis, exciting, fast, attacking football that we didn't think Pulis had in him - make him an offer he can't refuse!

  • @superfan.........as you ask have been a season ticket holder for 22 years. During that time have missed 5 home games. Also go to 4 or 5 away matches each season, and if not usually watch it on the box in a public house. Whilst that probably doesn't qualify me as a "superfan" I still probably watch our beloved team more often than 95% of those who post their opinions in this forum.

  • Hoofball Pulis? Nah! He saved palace last year with lowest common denominator football and he will go to the first struggling premier league side. Like a perennial life jacket, that is his fate. Adams hasn't been given a chance to show what he can do yet, and I believe he's a manager capable of a lot. Here's an "out there" statement to make but perhaps it's not the manager we need to change every 5 minutes, maybe its the players! Shock! Horror!

Anyway enough time left to sanction the sale of our better players but not enough time to get adequate replacements. Typical Norwich.

  • Right don't like comments that Fer & Redmond will only leave on Norwich's terms, would prefer some resolve saying they will not be leaving, it leaves the door open for bigger bids to come in. Regarding Pulis he done a good job at CP with plenty of shrewd signings, no I am not a CP fan but the company has tickets there and am always offered plenty of CP freebies from all sources!! Pulis would be a shrewd choice he builds a good team without spending exhorbitant amounts of money. Let's see if the board want Premiership or Championship ( or Div 1 ), Fer is certainly key but Pulis would offer a tremendous amount to the club. OTBC
