Lowestoft Town turned in one of their best displays of the season to hold champions-elect Wealdstone to a draw on a night when the hosts could have confirmed promotion.

The Blues gave as good as they got in a hugely entertaining game watched by a crowd of 852 and fully deserved to come away with a point that boosted their own hopes of reaching the end of season play-offs.

There were chances at both ends in a free-flowing first half with both sides contributing to the spectacle and few free-kicks to interupt the entertainment.

Lowestoft had four good chances to break the deadlock with Chris Henderson and Robert Eagle both narrowly missing the target from tight angles and Rossi Jarvis and Jake Reed being denied by good stops from Jonathan North.

Wealdstone also had opportunities but were unable to find a way past Blues’ keeper Ashlee Jones and the well drilled defence in front on him

It was a similar story in the second half with chances coming at regular intervals, but nobody able to put one of them away,.

Reed and Henderson both went close, while Jones produced more good stops to ensure Wealdstone were unable to clinch a win that would have secured a place in Conference South next season.

It’s surely only a matter of time before the London outfit get over the line - while Lowestoft remain handily placed in seventh and should head to promotion rivals Kingstonian in good heart on Saturday after showing they can compete with the very best in the division.

In the Premier Division of the Thurlow Nunn League Gorleston were held to frustrating 1-1 draw by struggling FC Clacton.

Christy Finch opened the scoring for the hosts a matter of seconds into the second half but the Essex side hit back to grab a share of the spoils.

Neighbours Great Yarmouth Town picked up all three points in their home Division One fixture with Debenham LC, winning 4-2.
