Norwich City’s club record signing Ricky van Wolfswinkel has not travelled to Italy with the rest of Neil Adams’ 24-man touring party on Friday morning after picking up a minor knee injury.

To send a link to this page to a friend, you must be logged in.

Van Wolfswinkel has stayed behind at Colney for further treatment following a scan that detected knee cartlidge damage suffered in training, but the Dutch striker is expected to only be sidelined for two weeks.

“Ricky unfortunately took a heavy knock to his knee in training,” Adams told the official site. “He’s had a scan last night (Thursday) and thankfully it’s not a serious cartilage injury, but it is bruised to the bone and he will stay at Colney receiving treatment while we are away.”

Sebastien Bassong, Luciano Becchio and Mark Bunn are the other notable absentees with both Bassong and Becchio on development duty in midweek at King’s Lynn. Anthony Pilkington has recovered from the sickness bug that saw him miss the 6-1 friendly win at Braintree and Alex Tettey is also in the squad after sitting out the win over the Iron with a swollen knee.

City are scheduled to play three matches, starting against Serie C side Novara on Sunday at their training base at Chatillon Saint Vincent. Further games against Livorno and SC Bastia are also on the itinerary next week, which is expected to be finalised later on Friday.

• Norwich City squad list for three-match tour of Italy

John Ruddy, Steven Whittaker, Bradley Johnson, Russell Martin, Michael Turner, Lewis Grabban, Jonny Howson, Kyle Lafferty, Gary Hooper, Anthony Pilkington, Wes Hoolahan, Jamar Loza, Elliott Bennett, Javier Garrido, Josh Murphy, Nathan Redmond, Martin Olsson, Ryan Bennett, Jacob Murphy, Declan Rudd, Alexander Tettey, Andrew Surman, Adel Gafaiti, Remi Matthews.

  • Think you've all been reading too much crime fiction re. RVW injury conspiracy. If the knee tweak is as documented here, of course it needs the appropriate treatment. Not overtly bothered if he stays or goes for decent money but I think he could still have a part to play.

  • Basso and RVW wouldn`t earn a fraction of the money they still get here , if they moved clubs .That`s why they`re here . As for The RVW knee injury , yes , of course he`s injured , would NCFC tell untruths ? [ Answers on a postcard , please ] .

  • Why would the club lie about RVW being injured, but not bother with Becchio, Bassong etc. Why would they pretend RVW is injured of they plan to sell him, wouldn't a strong pre season raise his sale value? Is it possible that he actually is injured?

  • Clearly Adams can't deal with high profile players such as Bassong and RVW (he is not injured for goodness sake - what do they take us for?) They will both be off as will Fer, Ruddy and Hooper for the same reasons. I hope he can deliver with the team of youngsters and journeymen that he feels comfortable;e with. All very worrying IMHO. CH was referred to by a few posters on this site as a clown. I'm beginning to think the moniker is more appropriate to the current incumbent.

  • A player in contract can only go if the club agrees to it. As such, I'm taking a pretty relaxed view to any potential outgoings as it'll obviously only happen on the club's terms.

  • It`s all three, tonyb. Without the silly money pouring in from shady sugar daddies and $ky, this couldn`t happen. It`s a gravy train. Or `jus` train in p0sh terms. A player with a 3-year contract at a moderately successful Prem club will earn more in those 3 years than many would earn in a lifetime. £3million+? Twice as much as a 40 year life of drudgery? Or 60 years as a qualified nurse? They are extracting something liquid.

Btw, they failed the incompetence course for ... failing to turn up. That course was held at The Woolpack, but there was no Pinot Grigio, so no incentive..... the road to Rouen.

Specially the poor paying punters. Plenty of Season Tickets sold. Loadsa Merchandise touted. Tea and Warmdog prices usefully increased. Wage bill down. Directors` Perks ring-fenced. All is well in the Kingdom of Carra.

If the latter is the case and he is staying at Carrow Road, then I for one hope he gets opportunities early in the season, scores a hatful of goals, doubles his valuation and makes the faithful fall in love with him.

  • While I believe in RVW, an truly believe the troubles of last season was down to hughtons horrific style of play I do agree with Capri. Its clear in my eyes RVW is down the pecking order in the man whose opinion matters. Neil Adams. His best bet if serious about wanting to stay and right some wrongs against him was to get his head down, work hard and take the minimal chances he gets. He started off well by not overly making a fuss about his squad number being taken away with out notification. He then took his chances against Braintree and has been nothing but positive on social media. Credit to him there, but this injury (if legit!) is a massive dent in his hopes. Even if he was well down Adams pecking order, if he continued to score and out score his rivals there is no way Adams would be able to ignore him. Sadly I get the feeling this injury is either a lie to hide the fact Adams has informed him he isnt in his plans or its a legit injury that will result in him being behind everyone else in terms of fitness and not even making the bench come August's big kick off. Was hard enough as it was because we do have plenty of numbers up to in Lafferty, Grabban, Hooper etc....even Loza seems to be higher in Adams estimations. Hopefully this isnt the end, just a minor set back.

Surely an injured Wolf would benefit from the "squad bonding" even if unable to train or play. As others have indicated, I guess Leroy Fer is not an obvious "notable absentee" from the quoted list.

  • It could be true but its just typical its RVW after all thats gone on and for that im rather reluctant to trust this statement from Mr Adams. What does support it is the fact it was meant to be a 25 man squad and now its a 24 man squad. Such a shame for RVW as its clear he is not Adams 1st (or even 2nd, 3rd 4th) choice and what he really could have done with was a productive Pre-season to do his cause some good and try convince Adams he can do well for us. I hope this is just extremely bad luck and timing and we are not being taking for mugs.

As long as they`re not Free-Bs :-( Another Winkel injury. Reportedly. Hooper, Tettey & Pilks on the plane. Ice packs for Alex`s knee and a sick-bag for Sicknote. Hooper`s on board. Are there any clues here? Apart from the Freebie 3 Bs? Nice initial spelling of "cartlidge" from The Padster. Almost rhymes with Radio Partilage. Some of us seem to have doubts about the veracity of the "information" we are being drip-fed. I am certain, though, that RvW is the club record signing.

Becchio might be useful at this level, but probably needs a fresh start, he's unlikely to be useful for us with the history of not playing that he's had, plus he's still behind Grabban, Lafferty and Hooper. Have to trust the RVW line from the club is true.
