Top of the podium places in the Under 23 division were achieved by Iona Lake and James McLachlan. James, in his six jumps, produced a season’s best 7.69m to take gold by 11cms from Croydon Harriers’ Elliott Safo.

Iona, pre-race favourite in the 3,000m steeplechase, was 30m off the pace with just 300m to go, but dug deep and at the final barrier was alongside the leader then moved away to win by a comfortable 10m.

In the Under 23 hammer event Callum Brown produced a lifetime best 65.73m, but had to settle for silver behind Liverpool Harrier Osian Jones, who threw a PB 69.91m. Alex Dunbar towed the field round for much of the Under 23 5,000m, but was outkicked in the later stages and finished sixth in 14.50.15. Under 20s Elliott Holland and Scott Greeves made it to the semi-finals in the 400m and 800m, in 49.70 and 1.54.35 respectively.

  • Thank you for printing my report but unfortunately you have left part of it out ie the two other silver medalists as well as Callum Brown. They were Ellie Jamieson in the under 20 girls javelin and Tom Hook in the under 20 men's 3 k steeplechase. I hope this can now be included. Thank you. Tim Ash
