More than 250 Norfolk schoolchildren took part in the Active Norfolk Youth Games on Wednesday, hosted by the UEA Sportspark in Norwich.

The pupils competed in several Olympic sports, including rowing, tennis, athletics and archery.

And their efforts were no doubt inspired by the appearance of Taverham’s Paralympic bronze medallist Mel Clarke and Olympic rower Stephen Turner.

The eighth year of the games continued its aim as a fun, safe and fair sporting festival for children and young people from across the county’ special schools and students from mainstream schools with physical or sensory disabilities.

The Paralympic Games theme continued with groups being assigned host Olympic city flags and names.

Laurie Hull, director of Active Norfolk, said: “With the emphasis on fun and enjoyment, this great festival helps engage children with disabilities in sport by giving them the chance to try some new activities and generally have a fantastic day.”
