Foxwood A move up Grant Matthewson Norwich & District Table Tennis League

In Premier A of the Grant Matthewson Norwich & District Table Tennis League, Foxwood A moved into fifth place, taking ten points from 12, the best win being 8-2 over Wensum E.

Wensum C have had mixed fortunes in recent matches with their best win against relegation threatened Briston by 10-0 moving them 10 points clear of the relegation spots. Gothic B slip closer to the relegation area after two defeats losing 6-4 to Foxwood A.

CEYMS A remain in third place with two wins: an 8 -2 victory over the B side where Trevor Bunn had two good wins over Ben Thompson and Russell King. They won 7-3 over Wensum C with Tony West and Ben Thompson taking all their singles.

Performance of the week in Premier B goes to bottom side SFC A when drawing with Foxwood B with Andy Cullum winning a brace. UEA B suffered a setback in their challenge for the Premier B title as they slipped to a 6-4 defeat at Gothic C although they later lost to Taverham B 3-7. Taverham A returned to winning ways against Firstline Factors while Panthers saw off Wensum G 7-3.

Leaders Electricity hammered Telephones B 9-1, and third-placed Hellesdon won 6-4 at Wensum F.

In Division One, Newton Flotman drew with Telephones C 5-5 and Norfolk County Council A beat Taverham C 8-2.

Wensum H beat Missionaries 9-1 in a hard fought and entertaining match.

In Division Two leaders Rosebery Road MYC and fast rising Wensum I had a close encounter with the teams sharing the points. Taverham D took three valuable points from Gothic D, beating them 7-3 to maintain their battle against relegation. Game of the night was Janet Kelly’s marathon win over Mike Gill, 22-20 in the 4th game and 11-8 in the fifth to help secure the win.

Ex Choristers were back on their winning ways beating Returners ‘B’ 6-4 thanks to Peter Crafer’s excellent maximum on the night. Biggest win of the week was Wensum ‘J’s’ 9-1 defeat of Dynamic Rams.

In Division Three there was a good result for UEA D who beat Foxwood F 7-3 but Remploy are marching to the title after a 8-2 win over Foxwood G.

In Division Four, UEA proved to be far too strong for the Wensum L team winning 10-0 although Rosanna Brocklesby took Alistair Nicholls to five sets and combined with sister Kate in the doubles, losing 11-6 in the fifth.

Tankards scooped the first five games before UEA staged a mini-comeback, with Tom Melvin and Aliss Chang winning a singles each and combining to win a doubles and gain a point, despite the 3-7 scoreline. The bottom two teams, Wensum L and Taverham E fought out an honourable draw.
