The 18-year-old played his second reserve game for the Toffees in a 1-0 win over Sunderland. Kelly, born at Hinchingbrooke and the younger brother of former City professional Danny Kelly, joined Norwich as an under-14 after leaving Cambridge United.

The second-year scholar played nine reserve games and made 16 academy appearances for the Canaries this season before his exit from Colney. Last season he played 27 times for City Under-18s, scoring twice. He made his reserve team debut for Everton in a 6-3 win over Newcastle and has signed a professional contract at Goodison Park. City confirmed Kelly had left the club but made no further comment.

  • That question again: when will one of our Academy products make it to the big time...with us? Usual Glasgonost from NCFC.

  • All sorts off stuff about. The Sun claims Zak and Titch Ward are on their way out. And C. Martin. A few facts from the Glasgonostridamus would negate many rumours from the "quality" Press.

  • That Academy is begging for a bit of Gorbalschev-style Perestroika then? It seems odd that a famous Club like Everton, managed by a top man like David Moyes, thinks young Kelly is worth a punt while NCFC see no future for him. Unless Sam had personal or family reasons for wanting to go there? A lot of our young hopefuls are out on loan; K. Smith, Francomb, Adayeme, Ball. Chris Martin is (was?) the exception, but that seems to be a portent of a permanent departure eventually. ILWT but I wish we had a little clarity sometimes. Sorry, Glasgonost is what we get! OTBC.
