EAST WOMEN’S LEAGUE: Norwich Dragons emerged triumphant in their vital bottom of the table derby clash against Norwich City.

The Dragons enjoyed the upper hand in the first half and created numerous chances.

Just before the break, a powerful strike from a short corner by Gail Thomas finally broke the deadlock.

Dragons continued to exert pressure in the second half and were rewarded when player of the match Laura Shreeve finished skilfully from an acute angle.

An injury to captain Lizzie Moulton seemed to unsettle Dragons and City got one back with a fine individual strike from Emily Anthony, but were unable to force an equaliser.

In the Premier Division, Dereham stopped the rot of three successive defeats by drawing 1-1 at Cambridge University.

Sprowston retained second place in Division 2NE after a dominant display in their 3-0 win against Broadland.

The first goal arrived when Sam Tea drove into the penalty area and her cross was deflected into the net by Becky Cox. Soon afterwards, some desperate Broadland defending failed to prevent Kerry Hamilton from forcing the ball over the line for the second.

Sprowston were continually denied by the Broadland keeper before Marie Hood seized on a rebound to add the third in the second half.
