Lakeford Rangers take on Taverham in the final of the Norfolk Minor Cup at Plantation Park tonight (7pm).
The two under-14 sides are no strangers to one another, having competed for several seasons together in the Norfolk Youth Football Combination.
The sides have met once already this season, with Taverham winning 4-0, but manager Gary Cooper doesn’t think this match will have any bearing on the final.
“To beat Lakeford we need to make sure everyone is on their game as they have players who can turn games very quickly in their favour,” he said.
Lakeford manager Mark Roe believes his players have what it takes to win the game.
“With our smaller team we will try and play more football and retain possession, this will be okay if we combat Taverham’s strength,” he said
Entry costs £2 for adults and £1 for concessions (Under 16’s and Over 65’s). A maximum of two under 12s can gain free admission when accompanied by a full paying adult.
• Sprowston take on Bentinck Arms on Sunday in the final of the Norfolk Sunday Intermediate Cup at Aldiss Park (11am).
Sprowston Sunday have fond memories of Aldiss Park, having won the Norfolk Sunday Junior Cup there two years ago, but their manager Darren Maxey knows a tough task lies ahead.
“This without doubt is our hardest game and we go into it as big underdogs,” he said.
“However, as always, our lads will be looking to play our own game with the commitment and style that the management team demand.”
Their opponents Bentinck Arms are experienced in this competition and go into the game as current holders, having won last season 2-1 against Bayer in the final.
Their manager Dean Mayes expressed the club’s desire to win and become only the third team to ever retain the trophy and has no doubts the King’s Lynn-based side will give 100pc on Sunday.
“I know the team will give everything and we are only thinking about one result. Winning!”, he said.
Entry costs £3 for adults and £2 for concessions. Again a maximum of two under 12s can gain free admission when accompanied by a full paying adult.
