Striker Cameron Jerome has become Norwich City’s second signing of the day, after a transfer for an undisclosed fee was confirmed by the Canaries.
The 28-year-old striker had been linked with a move from Stoke City earlier this week after being told he was surplus to requirements at the Britannia Stadium, having spent last season on loan at Crystal Palace.
The former England Under-21 striker has signed a three-year contract in a deal thought to be worth around £1.5million.
“Cameron brings power and pace to our attacking options,” City boss Neil Adams told his club’s official website.
“He’s someone I’ve been looking at for a long while and I’m delighted he became available to us. He gives us that brute strength as well as power, but he’s got much more than that too.
“He works really hard for the team and he gives us that strength in depth that we’ll need over a tough season.”
The Daily Record reported on Monday that Celtic had agreed a £2m deal with Stoke and offered personal terms to the tall forward but were looking at other options in the expectation that Jerome was heading for Norfolk.
Jerome added: “It’s a massive club and from my point of view, where I am in my career, I just need to be playing regularly and Norwich have made me feel very welcome.
“Once I spoke with the manager and a few other people here, it was a no-brainer. The ambition of the club matches my ambition as a player and I’m looking forward to getting stuck into training and hopefully being involved at the weekend.”
Jerome first came to the fore with Cardiff City, scoring 27 goals in 79 games to earn a £3m move to Birmingham City, who he then helped to earn promotion to the Premier League.
After 41 goals in 201 appearances for the Blues, Jerome was sold to Stoke for £4m in the summer of 2011 following Birmingham being relegated to the Championship.
He then managed 12 goals in 67 matches for Stoke, before being allowed to join Palace on loan at the start of last season, scoring just twice in 29 games.
Jerome’s signing continues a breathless day of transfer news emerging from Carrow Road, following hot on the heels of last night’s 3-1 home win against Blackburn Rovers.
Firstly it was announced that defender Michael Turner had signed a new deal which commits him to the club until the summer of 2016.
The former Aston Villa defender Carlos Cuellar was confirmed as having signed on a free transfer, with the Spanish defender joining on a one-year deal with an option for a further 12 months.
Shortly afterwards the club record £10m sale of Leroy Fer to Queens Park Rangers was announced, before Jerome’s signing was announced, becoming Neil Adams’ fifth permanent signing of the summer.
