The Swedish international striker scored three goals in 34 appearances in all competitions for the Canaries last season during his season-long loan, but just one of those was in the Premier League.

The 34-year-old former Bolton Wanderers and Toulouse player has rejoined Brondby, who he scored 29 goals for in 81 matches between 2006 and 2008, helping to win a league and cup double in 2005 and being named player of the season.

Elmander has signed a two-year deal with the Copenhagen club, much to the delight of sporting director Per Rud.

“(Johan) is undoubtedly a player from the top shelf,” Rud said, speaking to Brondby’s official website. “Besides having an amazing history with Brondby, Johan Elmander is still an incredibly talented footballer.

“He starred last season in 28 appearances for Norwich in the Premier League, and in the seasons before he has played more than 50 matches for Galatasaray. This does not happen without being physically fit and having a very high energy while playing level.

“In our conversations with Elmander, he has shown great desire to be a part of our project, and we expect that, in addition to raising our team, (he) will have a major impact on building the winning culture of the club and the development of our many young players.

“Similar to Thomas Kahlenberg we (see) Elmander as a carrier of culture at the club. With his vast experience, he will be invaluable for our young squad and the talents that are waiting.”

  • While I think some of the abuse directed at Elmander was harsh, his attitude at times towards fans questioning his bellow par performances was shocking. The fact that he refused to do the lap of shame after the AFC game too only closed the door fully on his horrific season. Always my issue with loan players. Its fine if they genuinely want to be here but if they dont care they are worthless. Im glad my Bolton supporting pals & family will stop ripping into me now about having him on our books.

  • They must have got him on a free. Don't know the standard of the league Brondby are in but hope it' s lower than our 2nd Div as 3 goals in a season when played nearly every game for City is pathetic. Should have gone before the H man who obviously liked him more than I can say for myself, I groaned everytime the team was announced and he was in the team. Surely no season can be worse than last season when we started with such high hopes.

  • el dingo, if Archie even paid his readers a little respect it would be a miracle. The Moderators have the effrontery to reject opinions on the grounds of "Inaccuracy", yet their own journos rely on the readership to correct their copy. Now copying IS one of their strengths.... Bring back Barking Wise. Free the Rabid Sage.

  • Is Per Rud Carra Rud's brother? They are welcome to Mr Elmander. Does Archie pay for proof-reading - we could augment our pensions Brew!

  • AIG; I`m surprised Archie hasn`t auto-rejected you. Reason: `Inaccurate`. Clearly, he applies retro-correction to himself and deletion to others. Btw - you are due a proof reading fee from young Freezer ;-)

  • MB, the original version carried 3 versions, being Brondy, Bronby and Brondby. This even have me a nervous glimpse back to our past as at that point I was also expecting reference to our former loanee Leigh Bromby, he of the long throw fame. But alas, this did not materialise. Fortunately the auto correct has been applied.

  • AIG, it seems Archie has retro-corrected the Brondby spellings, `cos I can see only the one version. Or is the answer to your querybang "one"?! The best bit of the article is "This does not happen without being physically fit and having a very high energy while playing level". That`s the spirit! Laid back; it`s the only way.
