Jake Dixon is determined to turn his RAF Reserves team’s home British Superbike Championship round – and some personal good news – into a big success at Snetterton this weekend.

The 22-year-old led his Marham team to a double podium in the previous BSB round at Oulton Park and the Kawasaki rider would love to deliver something just as good – maybe even better – when the elite series arrives at Snetterton, starting with Friday’s practice sessions.

More importantly, Dixon and his partner received the news anyone would love to hear ahead of his Norfolk date.

“I can’t wait for this weekend,” said Dixon. “It’s the team’s home round and I really like Snetterton. It was the first track I ever rode a superbike and the track is mint. My fiancée Sarah was recently given the all clear from cancer so I feel really good coming into this weekend.

“I have my focus on the second half of the season and this is where the ball really starts rolling. This year so far has been funny. We’ve been fast in all conditions in practice and then in the race for different reasons, it has gone wrong where I have made mistakes or whatever.

“We then had two really solid results with a double podium at Oulton Park and that continued into the Knockhill test, so hopefully we can carry that on.

“I feel happy and I know I can be on the podium and win races. We need to start doing that to push for the showdown (rounds) and I am ready to go out and have fun this weekend.”

Dixon sits sixth in the championship after the opening three rounds – the final place in contention for the championship battle come the final three dates.

MORE: Shane Byrne suffers serious accident at Snetterton during British Superbike testing

BSB legend Shane Byrne will miss out at Snetterton – and most likely the rest of the season – after a serious accident during testing in Norfolk last month.

JG Speedfit’s Leon Haslam currently leads the way and he is hoping for something this weekend he has yet to experience.

“Snetterton has been one of those circuits I’ve never actually won at – it’s only here and Thruxton out of the whole championship,” said the Kawasaki rider.

“So we’re looking to make amends this year. It’s really big for me because it’s not a track we’ve ever had good results at, so to get that here would show we’ve adapted the bike and myself to work on our weaknesses. It’s a key race for us.”

But the man chasing Haslam has other ideas – certainly after such a positive start to the year.

“If someone had said at the start of the season we would be second at this point in the championship, I would have definitely taken that,” smiled Buildbase Suzuki’s Bradley Ray.

“I think my goals have changed since round one. We have a good package and we are ready to fight for the podium again this weekend. We need to get our head down and keep going the way we have and we should have two good races.”

BSB race director Stuart Higgs added: “Snetterton is one of the nest rounds of the championship. It’s such a fast tack with close racing, and the riders love it.”

The action starts on Friday with free practice before BSB qualifying on Saturday and two races on Sunday – with a whole host of support series and local riders in action across the entire weekend.
