More than 2,500 people donned their running shoes on Sunday and took part in the one of the region's biggest charity races, the King's Lynn Grand East Anglian Run.

For the second consecutive year the weather was bright and sunny, providing the perfect running conditions for the sold out event, in which runners were fund raising for a number of charities.

Hundreds turned out to support the competitors in the main 10K race which took runners through the town centre, along the River Ouse pathway, The Walks and passed a number of historic buildings including Red Mount and Greyfriars Tower.

The winner of the main 10k race was Colchester's Adrian Mussett who completed the course in 32 minutes and 56 seconds, meaning the 2012 course record of 30 minutes and 18 seconds remains unbroken.

Andrew Leach took second place in 33 minutes 25 seconds with Malcolm Muir third in 33 minutes 34 seconds.

Havering's Faye Fullerton was the first woman to cross the line in 35 minutes 5 seconds followed by Emma Risbey who clocked 36 minutes 42 seconds for second spot and Laura Thomas who took third in 38 minutes 24 seconds.

Also popular was the Bespak Mini GEAR event - the 1.2 mile fun run open to people of all ages and abilities.

Kayvan Djamarani, managing director of Bespak, said: 'It was heartening to see so many families participating in the Bespak Mini GEAR and the team spirit and competitiveness of all those involved in the corporate challenge. It all added up to a tremendous day.'

For the first time GEAR was organised by the not-for-profit company Run For All, working in partnership with Alive Leisure and King's Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council.

Lynne Preston, Events Manager at Run For All, said: 'We were delighted with the incredible response to our first GEAR 10K. We are extremely grateful to everyone involved who worked so hard to make the run such a success, especially the volunteers.'

Run for All is part of the lasting legacy of Jane Tomlinson CBE, who raised almost £2 million through a series of endurance challenges, despite being diagnosed with incurable cancer.
