A shopper described the 'shocking' moment she saw a man fall to the floor following an altercation at a supermarket in Wymondham.

The 71-year-old, who did not want to be named, had just nipped into Morrisons on Norwich Road to get a bottle of wine on Monday evening.

But as she got half-way down the store she heard a lot of commotion and turned to see a man hit the floor.

'He was on the floor and there was blood on the floor.

'There was a customer who was giving him mouth to mouth.

'The paramedics came and I think he stepped back.'

Police said a man in his 20s is in a critical condition following an altercation at the supermarket yesterday.

Officers were called shortly before 8pm, and arrested three men and one woman in her late teens in connection with the incident.

The injured man was flown to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital by air ambulance.

The woman said she first became aware of the incident after hearing 'shouting'.

She said: 'I could just hear raised voices and a bit of a scuffle going on but there was two to three people.

'I didn't know who they were or what they were doing.'

She said there was 'quite a few' people in the store at the time of the incident, which happened just before 8pm, and described how children were 'crying'.

She said: 'People were shocked.

'The staff were trying to take control of it.

'Someone was calling for assistance, others were rushing forward to try and help. They were very, very good in there I must say.'

She said police and paramedics were on scene within minutes.
