Location, location, location is often highlighted as the key reason for choosing a new home but recent research from the NHBC Foundation and Savills finds that whilst it remains a contributory factor, a number of other priorities are equally important, states Edward Parker, managing director of Bennett Homes.

This collaborative report; Beyond location, location, location: priorities of new home buyers – is based on the views of more than 5,400 people who have bought new-build homes in the last four years and identifies core priorities which influence their choice of property.

These include the design of living space, off-street parking, a new home warranty, low maintenance and increased energy efficiency.

Interestingly the report also found that although local amenities such as schools, NHS services and local transport hubs were important considerations, ultimately they did not carry as much weight as the key features of the home itself. The results are very much in line with the customer feedback we receive at Bennett Homes. From listening to what today’s buyers want, we have adapted our layouts to incorporate more open plan living space with kitchen/dining rooms and open plan family areas. We know that energy efficiency is very important – as are green credentials – and so have incorporated air source heat pumps and solar panels on some developments.
