Two butchers from Wymondham are shedding pounds for pounds as they take part in a charity weight loss.
Paul Collins and Trevor Jonas who work at Collins butchers in Back Lane, Wymondham, are swapping sausages for salads to raise money for local cancer charity, Star Throwers.
Their sponsored weight loss will run for 12 weeks and will finish on Good Friday.
Mr Collins, who weighs 20st 13lbs, said he would like to lose about five stone while Mr Jonas, who weighs 17st, is aiming to shed three or four stone.
Mr Collins, 52, who lives in Spinks Lane, Wymondham said they intended to cut back on their food intake and start exercising in a bid to shed almost a quarter of their body weight.
“There will be no more bacon rolls for us,” he said. “We make a lot of pies and hot sausage rolls. They will have to stop. We can’t give in, it’s for charity. When people pledge money, you have got no choice.
“One woman in three and one in every two men will be affected by cancer at some point in their lives.”
Mr Collins has worked with Mr Jonas, 51, of St Thomas Drive, for six years.
“We are hoping to raise as much money as we can. We raised £500 in the first week,” he added.
Mr Collins, who has worked at the family butchers’ shop in Back Lane since he was 17, said that people in the town had been supportive.
“I decided it was about time I lost weight. I’m on blood pressure pills
I know I will stick to the diet if it’s for charity. My mum had breast cancer two years ago and Star Throwers helped her. We have got several customers who go to the centre and we really support it.”
Before the diet, a typical day’s intake for each of the butchers included two slices of toast with jam, two or three sausage and bacon rolls, a packet of biscuits, a cooked lunch, a large bar of chocolate and a cooked dinner.
