Work of Norwich In Bloom gains two national nominations
Submitted - November 2012
The hard workers of Norwich In Bloom are in the running for national recognition after the group reached the 2013 Britain In Bloom finals.
And in a crowning glory for The Friends of Norwich In Bloom, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, the group has been nominated in two different categories.
The communities representing Anglia In Bloom were announced yesterday and as well as Norwich being nominated for the city category, the Mancroft ward of Norwich is also nominated in the urban community category.
Terry Bane, chairman of The Friends of Norwich in Bloom, said: “I am over the moon that Norwich has been selected to go through to the national RHS Britain in Bloom Finals 2013 not only in the City category but also the Urban Community category with Mancroft Ward, which I think may be quite unique in the 50-year history of Britain in Bloom to have two entries from the same community in the same year.”
The Mancroft ward, including The Lanes, won the urban community and most improved categories at this year’s Anglia In Bloom finals, which were held in St Ives, Cambridgeshire, in September.
It all points to an exciting 2013 for the group, with Mr Bane adding: “The Friends will be extremely busy next year planning and organising two national RHS Britain in Bloom entries but will gear up for the challenge encouraging the Norwich community and more businesses to support and pull out all the stops to help Norwich win the best in the UK award.
“It’s been a great 25th anniversary year for the Friends and one I have been honoured and privileged to be part of as chairman.”
There were also two other nominations for Norfolk, with the Broads village of Filby, near Great Yarmouth, getting the nomination for the village category via its Filby In Bloom group. Great Yarmouth In Bloom is nominated in the coastal category.
Each finalist will now be assigned an Anglia in Bloom judge to mentor them ahead of the finals.
