A outdoor education centre in Norfolk has received a national accolade for the quality of its water sport activities.
Whitlingham Outdoor Education Centre - run by Norfolk County Council (NCC) - has been named Canoe England’s Centre of the Year 2013, in recognition of the centre’s efforts to provide paddle sport activities to people of all levels.
Mike Roper, head of the centre based near Norwich, said: “This is a tremendous achievement and a wonderful tribute to all the staff at the centre for their hard work and determination.
“Our key focus for the next year is to support schools with educational improvement. Our activities are far more than just an adventurous experience – they help promote self confidence, team work, communication and they link to the national curriculum.”
The £1.6m centre opened in August 2005 and was funded by NCC, Sport England and the Big Lottery Fund.
