They may be the oldest boy band in Norfolk – but the West End Waiters are still singing their hearts out as they celebrate a double milestone.

The Watton-based group started life in 1997 as a male quartet as a bit of fun in retirement.

Yet 17 years later and the six-piece's performances are a sell-out.

And last month the band played its 100th concert and smashed the fundraising milestone of £10,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Founder Ken Davis, 81, decided in 2009 that the men should meet more frequently and go 'on the road' in their red bow ties, braces and socks.

Since then they have performed all over Norfolk, to groups large and small, and in parts of Suffolk as well.

Former band member John Garratt has motor neurone disease and Mr Davis said the group is proud of their charity total in his honour.

'We really do have a lot of fun, and it gives us something to look forward to,' he said. 'We are a group of old men and we love what we do.'

The current band members are: Ken Davis, Derek Smith, Peter Cowling, Oliver Adcock, Roy Challand and John Shead, with Brenda Davis as the compere, Lesley Cowling as another performer, and June Garratt teaching the songs.

If you would like the West End Waiters to perform at your function then call Mr Davis on 01953 881792.

The group does not ask for a fee but requests donations are made to the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
