Students at Brundall Primary school have culminated a week of career focused activities by opening their very own hotel. The Brundall Grand, 'a pop up boutique hotel and spa' opened its doors on Friday to around 120 parents from the local community.

For one afternoon only, the entire school was transformed, 'Parents were invited to experience the children putting into practise many skills, with classrooms changed into a tea room, a 'mocktail' bar, a beauty spa, fitness suite and an entertainment lounge' said Helen Campbell, the school's representative.

The 10th-14th February was the school's 'Aspirations Week', marked by a variety of talks and activities designed to get students thinking about their future and highlight the importance of education. 'It has been so inspiring seeing what we can do when we are older' said Alisha Youngs, age eleven.

Students were also hands on in the preparations for the services of the hotel. The wedding venue featured beautiful wedding cake samples made by year 5 students, and the restaurant served an impressive menu of puff pastry canapés and eton mess, prepared by the year four students.

Much of the earlier part of the week was spent with older students visiting local businesses such as Richard Hughes's 'Cookery school of the year 2012/13' and Safe STS the ship to ship transferring company; illustrating the wide spectrum of options presented to the students. Children in younger years attended talks at the school by a singer, a chiropractor and local MP, Keith Simpson, among others, to learn how they too can pursue such career paths.

'Aspirations Week has been such a good chance to find out about jobs and what qualifications you need' said Alistair Halls, a year six pupil.
