Rail passengers have been warned to only travel if necessary with snow and ice expected to bring more major disruption across the whole Greater Anglia network.

The rail operator has warned due to the severe weather conditions, there will be are delays, cancellations, alterations and some services operating with fewer carriages than normal.

For the rest of today (Thursday, March 1) the following lines will remain closed :

• Norwich to Sheringham

• Norwich to Great Yarmouth

• Norwich to Lowestoft

• Ipswich to Lowestoft

• Ipswich to Felixstowe

Greater Anglia says the Norwich to London service will continue to operate on an hourly basis.

The firm’s website says it expects to see ongoing delays and disruption, as the extreme conditions are causing faults and problems with both trains and the rail infrastructure, as well as challenges staff trying to get around, in treacherous road conditions.

Passengers have been urged to check before they travel and allow extra time for the journey.

With the wintry weather set to continue, Greater Anglia has again advised those intending to travel tomorrow (Friday, March 2) to only do so if they have to.

They say that as a result of the severe weather conditions and the significant adverse impact of freezing temperatures and snow on trains, tracks, signalling and other equipment, they will be running an amended and reduced service tomorrow.

A Saturday service will operate on the following routes:

• Norwich, Ipswich, Colchester, Chelmsford and all stations in between to London

• Norwich to Cambridge

No services will operate on the following routes :

• Norwich to Sheringham

• Norwich to Great Yarmouth

• Norwich to Lowestoft

• Ipswich to Lowestoft

Further bad weather is also forecast for tomorrow afternoon, which may create further problems.

If a journey has been affected by disruption, passengers can claim compensation through Greater Anglia’s delay repay scheme.
