A group of City College Norwich students are creating a series of three shows about Norwich Sound + Vision that are being streamed live online.
The 15 students, aged 18 or 19, are managing and delivering the production, and among the people they are interviewing are Angel Mendoza, the music supervisor for Oscar-winning film No Country For Old Men and Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds; the writers of TV shows The IT Crowd, Birds of a Feather, and Miranda; Stevie Wonder’s manager; and also lesser known artists and music technology innovators.
Evie Calaby, 18, one of the students taking part, said: “It’s so busy, we’ve all been running around and it’s been really stressful, but really exciting too because none of us have ever done anything like this before.”
The students are producing a 30-minute magazine show every day during the festival which runs until Saturday.
City College Norwich course supervisor Lorraine Sutherland said: “They’ve all been working really hard to prepare. And they’ve done it all in just two weeks!”
The students are learning about film and TV production as part of a one-year course run jointly between City College Norwich and Norwich-based production company Eye Film and TV. The magazine shows are being filmed and produced at EPIC Studios in Norwich.
Jonathan Thursby, owner of Epic, said: “It’s a great example of what Epic Studios can do. We stream around 100 live shows every year – whether music or sport – to thousands of people around the world. We’re looking forward to sharing our facilities as part of the Norwich Sound and Vision festival. The shows will have professional and volunteer input and will be excellent examples of live broadcasting.
“Everything we do here is of broadcast quality but it’s the way of reaching the audience that is different. It means people can watch our shows on a tablet, mobile or laptop and as we’re uploading the show onto YouTube, that becomes our own version of the iPlayer.”
The students’ first show was last night and you can watch the show on this page.
Their next shows will be streamed live on www.norwichsoundandvision.co.uk and www.epic-tv.com/watch today at 7.30pm and Saturday at 8.20pm.
