Sixth form students at Wymondham High School were joined by The Voice star Bill Downs as they wrote their Christmas single, Coming Home for Christmas.

Bill worked with year 13 students Matt Vertigans and Alison MacKinnon to write the lyrics while Ed Eveson features on the piano, Matt Appleby on the electric guitar and Matthew Vertigan on the bass. The track also features Bill on vocals and guitar.

Mark Cole, community arts coordinator, said: “We do the Christmas single every year. In 2010 we raised £700. This is the first year we have got someone external involved.

“We are hoping to do some live performances in school assemblies. Working with Bill is great. It’s good for the students to work with him because he’s had recognition. He has got a big fan base here.”

The track, which was recorded and mixed in the school’s recording studio, will be available to buy on iTunes and 500 CDs will be made and sold at Wymondham Abbey’s Christmas carol service. All of the money raised will be donated to Wymondam-based cancer charity Star Throwers.

The project was overseen by Mr Cole and music technology teacher, Lloyd Jones.
