A new movie trailer gives viewers a glimpse of the role one of Norwich’s most historic landmarks will play in a star-studded film due out in cinemas next year.
In May 2011 Norwich Cathedral was transformed into an elaborate film set for just over a week as scenes for the film Jack the Giant Slayer were shot there.
Ewan McGregor was among the actors to be working on location at the cathedral for the film which also stars Nicholas Hoult, Eleanor Tomlinson, Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane and Bill Nighy.
The film is now scheduled for release in UK cinemas in March 22 next year, but before that viewers can get a sneak preview of the cathedral’s role in the latest trailer as these pictures show.
The Warner Bros film tells the story of an ancient war being reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants.
As a result the young man Jack (Nicholas Hoult) is forced into the battle of his life, fighting for a kingdom and its people, and the love of a brave princess.
Jon Holland, marketing manager at Norwich Cathedral, said everyone at the cathedral was looking forward to seeing the cathedral in the film.
He said: “The filming attracted great interest in the cathedral with visitors really intrigued as to what was taking place. The cast were fantastic, with Ewan McGregor signing autographs and talking to fans.
“We hope the film will attract people to come and visit Norwich Cathedral and see all that it has to offer and we will be hosting a number of activities next year based around the film to provide a really engaging experience for visitors.”
The Very Rev Graham Smith, Dean of Norwich, said: “Filming for Jack the Giant Slayer was a good experience for all of us at the cathedral, and we enjoyed working with the production team.
“With good planning and excellent cooperation the daily routine of the cathedral continued well. Income received from the project has funded urgently needed repairs to some of our historic buildings.”
