The Great Yarmouth and Gorleston lifeboat was called out on Monday following reports that a man had gone in the water after a dog.
The RNLI’s volunteer crew scrambled to the scene, off the beach at Gorleston, at about 6.15pm yesterday.
A helicopter from RAF Wattisham helped search the area for about half an hour. Following enquires by police and Coastguard, it became clear the call had been a hoax and emergency crews were stood down.
