Norwich’s new fairy godmother has been adding a touch of festive sparkle to a Christmas tree raising funds to support local disabled people.
Soul diva Sheila Ferguson, a former member of The Three Degrees, is starring in this year’s Norwich Theatre Royal pantomime Cinderella. She took a break from rehearsals yesterday to visit the 15ft high knitted tree at The Forum and also find out more about the John Grooms Court residential home in Sprowston Road. The tree was created in 2010 with the help of more than 600 volunteers, and has raised about £10,000 for John Grooms Court, which is home to 29 disabled young adults.
About the tree, Sheila said: It’s extremely unusual. I have never seen anything quite like it wherever I have gone in the world. It’s so unique and it’s for a great cause.”
The singer said she was enjoying getting into the pantomime spirit and looking forward to exploring Norwich.
• The Friends of John Grooms Court need volunteers to help with fundraising collections by the tree. Anyone who can help should call Ann Meijer on 01603 881180.
