Fans of the cult children’s TV series Knightmare will have a chance to take part in a special convention about the show if enough funding can be raised to support the event.
The convention is scheduled to take place from May 9 to 11 at EPIC Studios in Norwich, where the Anglia TV show was originally filmed in the 1980s and 1990s.
The adventure game show, in which youngsters had to navigate the dungeon to complete their quest, attracted audiences of five million viewers.
It has retained a following since its original run came to an end in 1994, and last year the show was brought to the stage with Knightmare Live before making a return in August for YouTube Geek Week.
This wave of popularity inspired the drive to bring cast, crew and fans together for the convention at the show’s spiritual home in Norwich. But fans need to act fast as they only have until March 25 to guarantee their place and ensure the event goes ahead via the online campaign page on IndieGoGo. Organisers need to raise just over £12,000 via ticket and merchandise sales and sponsorship.
Knightmare’s creator Tim Child and some of the show’s characters such as dungeon master Treguard (played by Hugo Myatt) and Lord Fear, leader of the opposition (played by Mark Knight), are expected to take part in the convention.
Mr Child said: “I can’t think of the forthcoming Knightmare convention as anything less than a defining celebration of all that Knightmare has come to mean for so many 20- and 30-somethings. We’ve already had a bit of a reunion last summer, courtesy of Google and YouTube, but that meant a fairly hectic production schedule with little opportunity for others to join in. This time it’s purely for the fanbase. They certainly deserve it.”
Convention events will include question and answer sessions, workshops with Knightmare artist David Rowe on designing a dungeon room, and the chance to play a room of the dungeon using the original blue screen technology.
Day passes cost £15. Pledges can be made for memorabilia and the chance to dine with Knightmare cast and crew.
