Video: Two sisters and a junior school teacher have metre of hair cut off in Hethersett for wig charity

Lilly Walker, nine, of Hethersett Junior School, and teacher Mandy Power, 48, joined forces to have their locks cut off today for the Little Princess Trust, while a crowd of around 50 onlookers supported them.

The idea came about when Lilly decided she wanted to do 'a random act of kindness' to help other children.

Following the cut, which saw her parted from 35cm of her hair, she said: 'It's a bit of a shock but it feels really nice. It felt nice to help.'

Mrs Power added: 'I'm not much of a runner or anything like that but when Lilly told me what she was doing for charity I just had to help her. We all know someone who has been affected by cancer so this was just a little something we could do to help.'

Lilly's sister Mollie Walker, 16, of Wymondham High Sixth Form, also showed her support by having 30cm cut off her hair earlier in the day by Claudia Pye of Hot Pepper.

She said: 'I was really looking forward to it. I'm glad I've done something nice for someone else.'

Their mum, Alison Walker, 39, of Little Melton, added: 'I am very proud of them.'

So far the trio have together raised £575 of their £1,000 target on their just giving page, as well as a further £125, totalling £700.

Lilly's hair was cut by hairdresser Mel Bambridge and Mrs Power's by Hannah Snelling, of The Hair and Beauty Lounge, off Sprowston Road, Norwich.
