A convoy of around 40 cars took to the roads of Norfolk today for a charity rally in memory of a popular motorbike enthusiast.

Friends, family and drivers gathered at Bunwell, near Wymondham, for the start of the memorial event, four years after the death of local man Daniel Greaves.

The vehicles left the village hall just after 11am, which stopped off at Wymondham and ended in Hembsy, that is set to raise hundreds of pounds for the East Anglian Air Ambulance and the intensive care unit at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.

The rally was the second to be held in the memory of the 20-year-old from Bunwell, who died when his bike was involved in a collision with a car in Silfield Road, Wymondham on November 3, 2008.

The event was organised by close friend Mark Ward and Daniel's sister Chelsea, 20, and they hope to raise 500 for the good causes. Part of the route was changed because of flooding near Bunwell following heavy rain and strong winds on Saturday night.

Mr Ward said he was 'happy' with the turn-out for the rally, with some participants coming from as far afield as Cambridgeshire and Essex.

'He [Daniel] would have been absolutely proud and proud of myself and his sister and the people turning up and people taking part in it,' he said.

The former Wymondham High School pupil Daniel, who was known to his friends as Danny, was badly injured following the crash four years ago and taken initially to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital before being transferred to Addenbrooke's Hospital. Despite their best efforts medical staff could not save the biker and his family made the difficult decision to turn off his life support machine.

Miss Greaves added that her brother would have thought the get together was 'awesome' and they hoped to organise another rally in the future.

The event was supported by TMO Traffic, Attleborough Car Wash and the Value Car Centre.
